What exactly does the Torqora AFM/DFM Disabler do? The Torqora Disabler plugs directly into your vehicle's OBD-II port and safely commands the engine control computer to stay in full-cylinder mode 100% of the time. It prevents the Active Fuel Management (AFM) or Dynamic Fuel Management (DFM) systems from deactivating cylinders, eliminating the hesitation, exhaust drone, and shudder associated with V4 mode transitions.

Will using this device void my factory warranty? No. The Torqora Disabler does not flash, rewrite, or permanently alter your factory Engine Control Unit (ECU). It simply communicates with the computer while plugged in. Because it leaves no digital footprint, your warranty remains intact. Once you unplug it, the vehicle instantly reverts to its factory settings.

Will this fix an existing engine knock or lifter tick? No. The Disabler prevents the AFM/DFM system from engaging, which can greatly reduce the risk of future premature lifter failures and mechanical wear. However, it is a preventative measure and cannot repair lifters or camshafts that are already mechanically damaged.

Will my fuel economy decrease? Because your engine will constantly run on all 8 (or 6) cylinders, you may notice a slight decrease in highway fuel economy (typically 1–2 MPG). Most drivers find that the smooth, consistent power delivery, improved throttle response, and reduced wear on engine components heavily outweigh a marginal drop in mileage.

Installation & Usage

How do I install the Torqora Disabler? Installation requires no tools and takes less than a minute.

  1. Ensure your vehicle's engine and ignition are completely turned off.

  2. Locate your OBD-II port (usually located under the driver’s side dashboard).

  3. Plug the Torqora Disabler firmly into the port.

  4. Start your vehicle. The indicator lights on the device will illuminate to confirm it is active and functioning.

Can I leave it plugged in all the time? Will it drain my battery? The Torqora Disabler is designed with a built-in sleep mode that activates when the vehicle is turned off, minimizing power draw. If you drive your vehicle daily or every few days, you can leave it plugged in continuously. If you plan to park your vehicle for an extended period (more than 5–7 days), we recommend unplugging the device to prevent slow battery drain.

Is it safe to plug or unplug the device while the engine is running? No. You should always ensure the ignition is completely off before inserting or removing the device. Plugging it in while the ECU is actively managing a running engine can cause communication glitches or trigger a Check Engine Light.

Do I need to unplug the device for a smog check or state emissions test? Yes. State inspection and smog machines require direct access to your OBD-II port to read the factory emissions monitors. Furthermore, the Disabler halts certain factory diagnostic monitors from running.

  • Steps for testing: Unplug the Torqora Disabler, drive the vehicle normally for 50–100 miles over a few days so the factory emissions monitors can reset and read "Ready," and then proceed with your inspection.

Can I use the Torqora Disabler alongside a performance tuner or custom tune? The Torqora Disabler cannot share the OBD-II port with another plug-in module (like a digital gauge display or plug-in tuner) without an OBD-II splitter, though splitters can sometimes cause data-collision errors. If your vehicle already has a custom ECU flash tune, you generally do not need a physical disabler, as most flash tunes disable AFM/DFM via software.

 

Troubleshooting & Error Code Guide

Common Symptoms & Solutions

Symptom: The Torqora Disabler LED lights do not turn on.

  • Possible Cause 1: Poor connection.

    • Solution: Unplug the device, inspect the OBD-II port pins for dirt or damage, and firmly re-insert the device until it is fully seated.

  • Possible Cause 2: Blown OBD-II port fuse.

    • Solution: The OBD-II port often shares a fuse with the 12V auxiliary power outlet (cigarette lighter). Check your vehicle’s fuse box diagram and replace the fuse if blown.

Symptom: The vehicle is still dropping into V4 mode.

  • Possible Cause: The module did not sync properly with the Engine Control Unit (ECU) upon startup.

    • Solution: Perform a hard reset. Turn the engine off, remove the keys, open and close the driver's side door, and wait 3 minutes for the ECU to power down. Unplug the Disabler, plug it back in firmly, and start the engine.

Symptom: "Service StabiliTrak" or Traction Control warning messages appear on the dash.

  • Possible Cause: Data collision on the vehicle's CAN bus network. This occasionally happens when the device sends a command at the exact millisecond the ECU is polling the StabiliTrak system.

    • Solution: Turn the vehicle off, unplug the device, wait 60 seconds, and plug it back in. The warning lights should clear on the next engine cycle.

Symptom: The Check Engine Light (CEL) illuminates immediately after installation.

  • Possible Cause: The device was plugged in or unplugged while the ignition was ON or the engine was running, causing a sudden break in data communication.

    • Solution: Turn off the engine. Unplug the device. Wait for the vehicle to go to "sleep" (about 3–5 minutes). Re-insert the device and start the car. The CEL usually clears itself after 3 to 5 normal drive cycles.

Symptom: The vehicle battery is dead after sitting for a few days.

  • Possible Cause: While the Torqora Disabler has a low-power sleep mode, it still draws a micro-current to monitor for engine startup. Weak or aging batteries may drain faster.

    • Solution: If parking the vehicle for more than 5 to 7 days, unplug the device to preserve battery life. Have your battery and alternator health checked if it dies in less than 5 days.

Common Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)

If you scan your vehicle with an OBD-II code reader after experiencing a Check Engine Light related to the Disabler, you will likely see communication-related "U-Codes." These do not indicate mechanical failure; they simply mean the ECU noticed an interruption in digital communication.

  • U0100 (Lost Communication with ECM/PCM): The most common code triggered if the Disabler is removed while the engine is running or the ignition is in the "ON" position.

  • U0073 (Control Module Communication Bus "A" Off): Triggered by a data collision on the CAN bus. Often occurs simultaneously with the StabiliTrak warning light.

  • U0140 (Lost Communication with Body Control Module): Can occur if the device is not fully seated in the port, causing intermittent contact with the data pins.

How to Clear U-Codes:

  1. Turn the engine off and unplug the Torqora Disabler.

  2. Plug a standard OBD-II code scanner into the port and clear the codes.

  3. Turn the ignition off, unplug the scanner, and plug the Torqora Disabler back in.

  4. Start the vehicle.

Standard Module Reset Procedure

If the Disabler is behaving erratically, freezing, or not keeping the vehicle in V8/V6 mode, perform this sequence to force a fresh handshake with the vehicle's computer:

  1. Turn the ignition completely OFF and remove the key (if applicable).

  2. Open the driver’s side door and leave it open. (This keeps the accessory power circuit active).

  3. Wait 3 to 5 minutes for the dashboard lights to go out and the vehicle's computers to go to sleep.

  4. Unplug the Torqora Disabler.

  5. Wait 60 seconds.

  6. Plug the device back in firmly.

  7. Close the door and start the engine normally.
